This hand-turned Ash platter’s colors and graining coupled with spalting–a highly prized, naturally occurring coloring from a fungus–give this bowl movement and life. It’s wide, almost iridescent grain accentuates the spalting and makes the bowl look both rustic and refined. Flying saucers should look this good!
Thie wide rim and shallow, but functional, center bowl are accentuated by the grain pattern and spalting. The post-finishing curing process has actually brought out the grain around the spalting, giving this bowl a unique texture and feel. The spalting and deep grain almost make the surface bumping–this is after being sanded smooth!
